We are thrilled to share the highlights of our recent national-level workshop, which took place on September 5, 2023, at the prestigious Hotel Bengal Inn in Dhaka. This event was a significant step towards promoting sanitation financing and advancing safely managed sanitation systems in Bangladesh.

The workshop was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Mr. Valentin Post, CEO of FINISH Mondial, and Mr. Abhijit Banerjee, the Country Coordinator for FINISH Mondial India. This gathering was followed by an engaging “MEET and GREET” session with leading Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) in Bangladesh, focusing on sanitation financing.

Ms. Wahida Anjoom, the Country Coordinator for FINISH Mondial Bangladesh, opened the event with a warm welcome speech. She eloquently outlined the workshop’s objectives, emphasizing the pivotal role of Result Based Financing (RBF) in enhancing sanitation access.

Mr. Post and Mr. Banerjee shared invaluable insights into FINISH Mondial’s approach to RBF, shedding light on the promising opportunities presented by impact investment funds in Bangladesh. Their expertise sparked meaningful discussions on how to drive positive change in sanitation financing.

As we all know, Bangladesh stands as a global beacon in the field of Microfinance. Ms. Wahida Anjoom further elaborated on FINISH Mondial Bangladesh’s RBF strategy, highlighting the importance of collaboration with MFIs experienced in sanitation finance within the country. It was heartening to witness the strong commitment expressed by MFI leaders to collaborate closely with FINISH Mondial in expanding financial inclusion for safely managed sanitation systems in Bangladesh.

Our workshop created a conducive environment for FINISH Mondial Bangladesh to spearhead RBF initiatives in sanitation finance, aligning with the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.2. Our collective focus remains on the entire sanitation value chain, ensuring equitable access to safely managed sanitation systems through financial inclusion and fostering a sustainable sanitation circular economy.

In closing, the meeting concluded with a resounding call for greater collaboration and cooperation among microfinance institutions in Bangladesh. Together, we are better equipped to address the sanitation challenges our nation faces and work toward a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.
